The mission of Montessori Discovery Garden is to provide a loving, caring environment through the use of Montessori principles, to guide and nurture each child to his or her full potential.

"The most important period of life is not the age of university studies, but the first one, the period from birth to the age of six. For that is the time when Man's intelligence itself is being formed." - Maria Montessori

Our caring, dedicated, nurturing, Montessori trained staff meet the needs of children in a home-like setting. Our teacher has Association Montessori International (AMI) training and a Master of Education degree. Through the use of the internationally  approved Montessori philosophy, each child is guided to maximize their potential.  Beautifully prepared indoor and outdoor environments are set up at our  location. Gardening, cooking, and working with the appealing Montessori materials, are part of each days choices the child makes to enhance his or her mind, body, and spirit.  Parent Education Classes are also available.  We will soon be offering Non-Violent Communication (NVC) to interested parents, with references to the book Unconditional Parenting by Alfie Kohn.

Scientific research has shown that the First Plane of Development (ages 0-6), is the most critical developmental period in a child's life. It is the time to give your child the best of what culture and the world has to offer them.

At Montessori Discovery Garden, located  3 blocks from Fairburn Ave. Elementary School,  M.F.A. degreed Art and Music teachers work with the children each week as part of our regular program. The development of a foreign language (Spanish) is also encouraged by our part-time Spanish teacher. Yoga classes are also available once a week.

We are working with a Board of Directors and with The California Charter Schools Association to create the  First Charter Montessori Elementary School, for students K through 5th, called the Montessori Charter School of Los Angeles (MCSLA).  We hope to open this school in September of 2011.  We were hoping to open in September 2010, but we are still awaiting our approval from LAUSD.  We are currently seeking new Board members. Parents interested in becoming part of this program should contact us.

We are open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 6:00pm.

We accept children who are toilet trained and most of our children attend full time.  The Montessori classes are from 8:30am to 3:30pm.  Children may arrive before 8:30am at 8:00pm and stay after 3:30pm until we close at 6:00pm for no additional fee.  The tuition is $1,200 per month.  We sometimes but rarely have part-time options available.  You may inquire at 310-474-7405 for availability.
